The commercial vehicle sector continues going from strength-to-strength with Ford, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz among those reporting record sales in September.
Indeed, Ford says it racked up a CV sales record of 15,503 units last month which was its highest monthly total for more than 30 years.
Ford now commands 28% of the commercial vehicle market and its Transit brand would be the second most popular vehicle sold in the UK.
Transit family dominates van sales
As it is, the Ford Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Courier and Transit Connect racked up sales of nearly 14,000 vehicles.
Of the Transit line-up, the Custom is the most popular and in the UK’s league of bestselling cars and vans, it would rank in 10th place.
It’s been a good year for the Blue Oval with a raft of new launches to help re-establish itself as the dominant player in the commercial vehicle field.
VW celebrates sales record of commercial vehicles
VW Commercial Vehicles has also announced that it had a record-breaking September with all of its Van Centres reporting ‘brisk business’.
With a market share of 13.5%, VW vans are in second place in the light commercial vehicles segment.
Among its highlights, was a record September for Crafter sales, up 55% on September 2013. The VW Crafter is underpinning the firm’s success and running at record levels.
Mercedes Sprinter chassis cab is the firm’s star
In total, VW sold more than 5,500 commercial vehicles last month and sales are up 9% when compared with last year and so far reach nearly 31,000 sales for the year.
They aren’t the only two firms reporting record sales, Mercedes-Benz Vans has racked up a 12% sales increase in the last quarter.
Among its strong performers is the excellent Citan, which saw a 40% increase, the Sprinter which grew sales by 23% and the Vito with an 11% increase.
However, the real star of the show is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis cab which saw orders rocket by 68%.
