Bulk liquid haulier William Nicol were so pleased with their two new Mercedes Actros 2563 GigaSpace tractor units that they have ordered two more.
The vehicles have been fitted with the six cylinder 15.6 litre engine which produces 625HP and the tractor unit has been completed in the firm’s traditional livery.
The tractors also have chrome light bars and accessories fitted and now haul polished stainless steel tankers.
The two new units are the first Mercedes Actros in the fleet of 50 tractors and 80 trailers.
They are now being put to work in hauling waste oil, chemicals and other commodities around the UK.
Mercedes Actros have strong residuals
A director of the family firm, Keith Nicol, said: “We have had Mercedes in the past and they are solid trucks with strong residual values.
“We also wanted bigger engines that make short work of hilly terrain and the long distances we have on runs to the South of England.
“We value our drivers and like to provide the most comfortable and best vehicles. The cab for the GigaSpace is well-designed with high quality materials and lots of storage space.”
The firm has also fitted the tractor units with fridges, microwaves and televisions.
The new Mercedes Actros were presented to the firm at their head office in Aberdeen which is also home to their museum of historic steam engines and classic trucks.
Drivers appreciate the Mercedes Actros
He pointed out that the extra cost was a ‘small price to pay’ because when drivers appreciate they are highly regarded by an employer they give a better standard of service which is good for customer relations.
William Nichol has been in business for 80 years and there truck and steam engine collection is maintained by an enthusiastic team and regularly displayed at exhibitions and shows around the country.
